Large Scale Projects

LOCATION | NORTH STRATHFIELD

Bakehouse Quarter.

Engaged in 1998 shortly after Arnotts leaving the site, we engaged with the developer and his vision of the site to see it become a thriving metropolis.

Arnott's Bakehouse Quarter. The Bakehouse Quarter in George Street Homebush is the redevelopment of the former Arnott's Biscuit Factory. This factory was relocated to Huntingwood in 1997.

Arnott's Biscuits were originally established in Newcastle but the first Sydney factory at Forest Lodge was opened in 1894.

The first Arnott’s Biscuits factory opened at Forest Lodge in 1894, but when demand created the need for a larger factory, Homebush was chosen as the best location because of its proximity to the rail system. Company founder William Arnott had made the decision to move the factory closer to Sydney, but died in 1901, before he could see his dream realised. Seen at the time as a mistake on Arnott’s part due to Homebush’s then-long distance from the city, the factory eventually became the largest of its kind in the Southern Hemisphere.

In fact, the Arnott’s factory was one of the foundations of economic prosperity in the growing residential suburb of Homebush in those days; there were few families in the suburb that didn’t work for Arnott’s.

Work began quickly rapidly transforming this manufacturing complex to a thriving commercial and dinning in hub.

Gone were the old stainless mixing vats and large store areas with green ceramic tiles.

Soon the latest technologies were installed and the NRMA call centre were one of the first tenants. We were retained by NRMA to undertake the construction detail documentation of their fitout.

BACK TO PROJECTS

The infrastructure challenges for such a large site were significant.

Old buildings transformed from store house areas to new and exciting office space.
